If you want to catch up with Polish history, I have good news for you. You don’t need to take a full dull course – just find 8 minutes and enjoy a genius animation which shows all the essential facts. The brilliant short video telling Poland's history by the master Tomasz Bagiński was the hit of the EXPO 2010 Shanghai exhibition. It's worth mentioning that the film won the silver medal for the most creative presentation at the EXPO.
This excellent piece of animation traces our history
from feudal times to the present day. The presented events together make an
incredible story and the special effects, figurative style and vivid music make
it look like a fantasy movie. Within the 8-minute video, you will learn
about the world wars, the partitions, social transformation, the rise and fall
of Communism, Solidarity movement as well as Polish outstanding personalities
(such as Chopin, Copernicus or Mickiewicz) and much more. Even though the
video was criticized by some (e.g. for excluding key historical issues or
powerful women characters), it’s still the best Polish history lesson you can
find on the Internet.
Tomasz Bagiński is a renowned producer who created
the computer games series The Witcher and now is working on the Netflix
series based on the novels. But when he worked on the animation, he asked
himself one key question - how to tell a nation's story without boring
everyone. He concluded viewers wanted thrills and surprises, and to be
impressed by images and music. So even if they want knowledge, they most likely
want to find out about what differs our country from others.
If you are not Polish, then several dates may not
mean a great deal to you so that is why I made this graphic below with
explanation. Hope you enjoy it! :).
